About the brand
Vaude is a German family company that makes gear for the outdoors, for cycling and for the city. It was founded in 1974 by Albrecht von Dewitz in the Lake Constance region, and the brand name comes from his initials V and D. Since 2009, the company has been run by his daughter Antje von Dewitz. Vaude is still based in Tettnang, where its own workshop has been making backpacks, bike bags and other bags since 1980.

Production and working conditions
Some of the bike bags, backpacks and bags are made in Vaude's own workshop in Tettnang-Obereisenbach, where around 55 people work. The other products are sewn by contract factories. Vaude is a member of the independent Fair Wear Foundation, which uses regular audits to monitor working conditions in suppliers' factories. Since 2015, Vaude has held Leader status, the highest category in the Foundation's rating.
