About the brand
The origin of the Secrid brand dates back to the 1990s, when the design agency Spirid was handling contracts for ING, Maxi Cosi, and Quooker. The evolution of these designers' thinking went hand in hand with the latest innovations, which was also reflected in the field of payment systems. The company reacted almost immediately to the introduction of electronic payments in the Netherlands and, as early as 1997, came up with the first minimalist wallet, the Secrid Bodycard.
In 2008, when Europe was hit by the financial crisis and orders from large companies dwindled, René and Marianne van Geer decided to capitalize on their long-standing experience as design professionals and founded the Secrid brand. In addition to the desire to bring the traditional production of leather goods back to the Netherlands, they also had a vision to change people's perspective on their wallets. With the development of technology, payment options are becoming faster and simpler. A single beep is often enough for a transaction. The flip side of the coin is the growing number of attacks on the wireless communication used by payment cards and the increasing demands for the security of payment instruments. Secrid accessories are not only professionally crafted from an aesthetic point of view, but they also meet today's demands for a protective function.
The sophisticated functional design of Secrid products is evidenced by awards such as the Red Dot Design Award for the Cardprotector wallet in 2010 and the Aluminium Award for the Miniwallet in 2012.
