About the brand
The history of the legendary Nalgene brand bottles began in 1949 in New York, when American chemist Emanuel Goldberg produced the first plastic test tube. His team of experts initially focused on developing and manufacturing plastic containers that served as laboratory equipment. However, during the 1960s, some of these became so popular with scientists that they decided to use them for personal purposes as well. Since the bottles were lightweight and sealed well, they were most often taken hiking in the mountains as water bottles.
The popularity of Nalgene bottles was then boosted in the 1970s by scouts, who found them to be the ideal outdoor bottle for their expeditions into nature. Compared to the glass and tin bottles commonly used at the time, the plastic ones were lighter, easy to carry, and perfect for storing all sorts of necessities – from water and soluble drinks to food and shampoos. And so the idea was born to produce travel plastic containers and bottles of high quality with a long lifespan for end customers as well. Nalgene brand water bottles were even part of the equipment of the American ice hockey players at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, who won gold medals after defeating the USSR. Nalgene has been a subsidiary of Thermo Fisher Scientific since 2004.
With its products, Nalgene strives to meet the individual needs and lifestyles of its customers, but also to respect and protect nature, the environment (Nalgene Water Fund project), and the health of consumers who use their products every day. Its products are made strictly without harmful bisphenols A (BPA) and S (BPS), which can commonly be found, for example, in some plastic packaging and bottles (most often made of polycarbonate), or in the lining of the inside of cans, from where they can gradually be released into the drink or food and contaminate it. According to research, BPA and BPS can significantly disrupt hormone function and are also linked to the development of obesity, cancer, or diabetes. They are particularly dangerous for infants and young children, which is why their use, e.g., in baby bottles, is banned in the EU. Nalgene products intended for food contact made from Eastman Tritan copolyester have undergone thorough testing to confirm their safety. The bottles are made in the USA and can be hygienically washed in a dishwasher.
Great emphasis is also placed on durability. Strong impacts, as well as low or high temperatures, are no cause for concern. The bottles also generally do not affect the taste of the drink and do not absorb dyes, so you can truly enjoy your beverage, including pure water. A bottle that can withstand a lot replaces single-use plastic packaging, thereby contributing to the reduction of waste and emissions.
