The brand offers a wide range of affordable luggage that boasts eye-catching designs, colors, and practical functional features. Original textures, bold colors, and elaborate details create distinctive and exceptional products that become perfect travel companions.
The story of American Tourister began in 1933 on Rhode Island, USA, when founder Sol Koffler invested his life savings to start a luggage company. His goal and dream was to create a durable suitcase that would be affordable for everyone.
In the post-war year of 1945, air travel began to take off, and lightweight, durable luggage became highly sought after. American Tourister responded to the demand with the Hi-Taper suitcase, which was lightweight, modern, and complemented by other features that made travel easier.
The 1950s were a period of experimentation with cutting-edge materials for the company, resulting in the production of the world's first molded suitcase. It was characterized not only by high durability but also by a modern design. This progress became a good stepping stone for the rise of international air travel in the 1960s. American Tourister became the first company to start testing its products with the help of flight attendants from major airlines.
In 1971, the brand released the famous Gorilla advertising campaign. In the ad, a gorilla inside a cage unsuccessfully tries to break an American Tourister suitcase by throwing it and hitting it against the bars.
In 1993, American Tourister was acquired by Samsonite. This created a combination of two strong global luggage brands, which added a new dimension to both companies.
2014 was the year the brand collaborated with Disney, giving rise to luggage featuring favorite characters from the worlds of Disney and Marvel.
In 2017, American Tourister launched the iconic SoundBox model. The unique design of concentric circles earned it the prestigious Red Dot Design Award.
The following year, 2018, the company American Tourister did not rest on its laurels and began a collaboration with football star Cristiano Ronaldo, who became the face of the entire brand.
In 2019, American Tourister introduced the new Airconic collection with its lightest-ever hardshell suitcase. The large Airconic suitcase (size L) boasts a weight of only 3.2 kg.
The following years were marked by sustainability. The American Tourister company quickly understood the need for change and responded with a unique material from recycled PET bottles called Recycled™. This material is used for both the inner lining and the outer surface of American Tourister suitcases and bags.
In 2021, the American Tourister brand symbolically conquered the European market, with the millionth SoundBox model suitcase sold here, which indicates their high popularity and timelessness.
In 2023, the American Tourister brand celebrated its 90th birthday. Although it is older than it might seem, it still follows its original vision - to create high-quality luggage affordable for everyone, just as its founder envisioned.
