When choosing a new backpack, I had several requirements that it had to meet without debate. I wanted to try the much-praised mesh back system, a different material than before, and I also insisted on low weight. Did my catch stand the test? You can read about it below.

First, I hesitated for a long time between the Vaude Tacora 18 and 26 backpacks. However, the smaller version seemed too small for day trips, partly due to the curved back system, which significantly reduces the volume. So, I chose the larger version in purple. I like the clean design of this model, and even though it is a sports backpack, it looks quite feminine and elegant. I also appreciate the Green Shape certificate, which guarantees that the backpack is made with the environment in mind, from sustainable materials, and under fair conditions.
The mesh doesn't have to be just for swinging
Until now, I was more of a fan of the classic back system with a central ventilation space. That's why I was a bit afraid to load the backpack with a full load right away. But to my surprise, it sat nicely on my back, and the edge of the mesh was not uncomfortable on the body at all. Moreover, you can adjust the tension of the mesh using the integrated loop exactly according to your needs.
Looking at the load of things for an all-day trip, I hesitated a bit in the morning, but I must admit that in the summer heat, a good back system was truly invaluable. However, don't think that you will sweat less with a mesh on your back. Sweating won't decrease, but you will definitely dry faster, and you won't have that feeling of a cold and wet back.
During summer trips, I also appreciated the soft padding on the shoulder straps. They are light and pleasant to the touch thanks to the soft cover, so they don't chafe on bare skin and are comfortable to wear. Their only drawback is their color – they are white, which is a bit impractical for the outdoors, and after a few trips, they look slightly dirty.
Few pockets
The elegant design of the Vaude Tacora 26 took its toll, however. In the interest of a clean look, the creators were likely forced to forgo small pockets on the front of the backpack. To be honest, I miss them a bit – there is nowhere to put tissues, lip balm, and similar small items. There is an organizer in the front pocket, but I didn't find it very useful (perhaps I have a non-standard phone size and too large a wallet). A key clip is a standard part of the organizer, and that is the only thing I actually used for its intended purpose. On the outside, the backpack has two side pockets that don't look like they could carry much at first glance. However, after carrying two bottles all day, nothing happened to them; the bottles didn't even fall out and stayed in place nicely. The small pocket on the hip belt is perfect for my smartphone, which I have handy whenever needed.
A generous elegant piece
The main compartment of the backpack has an integrated pocket where you can insert a hydration bladder and easily route the tube to the shoulder strap. The rest of the space is without pockets, only with the option to divide the space into two parts using a zippered partition, giving you two separate storage areas. I took advantage of this feature and put my camera bag in the bottom compartment. The camera was protected, and I had the rest of the space available for clothes and snacks. If you leave the partition unzipped, you have one truly generous space with two access points – bottom and top.
You can really pack a lot into the backpack. However, when filling the backpack, it requires some thought about how you stack things. The lightweight outer fabric is very thin and therefore does not hold its shape on its own and easily adapts to the contents of the backpack. So, it's not a big problem to end up with a large purple potato on your back instead of an elegant backpack. This is especially true if you want to attach poles to the backpack. Although the Tacora has loops specifically for trekking poles, if you pack the backpack poorly, it will be more difficult to hang the poles on the loops.
Final verdict
And what is the answer to the question in the introduction? After several test trips, I can say with a clear conscience that I am satisfied with the backpack. I see it as a combination of a functional sports backpack with an elegant design, so you can take it to the city without worry and not look completely out of place. It is beautifully lightweight, and the soft padded straps make carrying it as comfortable as possible. Except for the mentioned minor shortcomings, I definitely do not regret my choice.
