The Hunt for School Bags – Don't Miss Out on Emipo and Herlitz

January 31, 2019 5 min read

With proper care, a school bag can last your child several years, even while they are in a period of rapid growth. Quality is key, so do not underestimate the choice of a school backpack. What do you need to keep in mind?

Support, comfort, and safety

A crucial criterion is the design of the back panel. The bag should sit snugly against the back and should not be significantly wider than the child's shoulders. Its ability to hold its shape, even when fully loaded, is important. Modern back systems designed with children's anatomy in mind ensure support and proper spine development. Even so, remember that children should not carry more than 10% of their body weight on their backs. Especially for smaller children, you will appreciate bags made from lightweight materials.

Last but not least, remember your child's safety. Reflective elements should be a standard part of any chosen model so that the little student is clearly visible even in low light.

Which school bag brand should you choose?

If you are looking for a school backpack with attractive motifs and good quality, don't miss the range from Emipo and Herlitz, which have recently been added to our offer. Both specialize in manufacturing bags and backpacks for first-graders and older students. Although each offers slightly different models, health, comfort, and safety are essential for both.

Emipo, one of the most famous Czech brands of backpacks and school bags, has been navigating the Czech market since 1992. Over time, it has become the largest manufacturer of school supplies in the Czech Republic and now offers products primarily for primary school pupils. Its priority is the continuous improvement of quality, achieved through the application of new knowledge in technology and materials.

In contrast, Herlitz is a brand representing German quality. The company follows current trends and incorporates them into the design of its products. You certainly don't have to worry that the effort for a modern design will negatively affect quality. For Herlitz, functionality combined with affordability remains a priority.

Will your child prefer Czech classics or German precision? Let's take a closer look at both brands!

EMIPO: Functional classics

Emipo Klasa Galaxy school bag

Emipo presents the traditionally looking yet cleverly designed Klasa bag. It boasts a stable construction that holds its shape even when loaded, and an anatomically shaped back system with ventilation. Longer durability and easy handling are ensured by two separate handles – one for carrying in the hand, the other for hanging on a desk.

The lid of the bag is traditionally closed with a lock. They really paid attention to the design of the lock, so even first-graders can open it without any problems. Thanks to textile hinges, the flap stays in the open position.

For rainy weather, the bag is equipped with waterproof impregnation. The main flap securely covers the entire storage space so that water has no chance to leak inside, and there are feet on the bottom to prevent the base from getting wet or dirty.

Reflective elements are located on the sides, back, and front on the shoulder straps so that the student is clearly visible even in low light and bad weather. There is also a reflector in the lock flap.

The cherry on top, or rather on the bag, is the extended three-year warranty that Emipo offers on its backpacks.

HERLITZ: Sophistication and modern design

With the more modern Herlitz bags, what was mentioned above is also a matter of course. You can rely on ergonomically shaped and breathable back padding, easy opening and closing of the lock, an integrated timetable, and a stable construction with a solid bottom. The surface of Herlitz bags is impregnated and the contents are protected by a lid, so school supplies will stay dry even in bad weather.

Herlitz also doesn't leave the safety of little students to chance. On the products, you will find reflective elements not only on the sides, back, and shoulder straps. The bags also boast seams stitched with reflective thread and are covered in fluorescent material in a color that matches the chosen motif.

Herlitz Midi school bag

The company takes into account the different body types of its little users when manufacturing its products, and can therefore boast a wider range of bags. Herlitz Midi is a compact bag with a volume of 16 liters, ideal for children with narrower shoulders. Its great advantage is the possibility of dual adjustment of the shoulder straps. Thanks to this, the bag will fit perfectly on the back.

Herlitz also offers models made of lightweight materials: Loop is a spacious bag with a volume of 15 l, weighing less than 900 g. The lightweight Smart model is similar, which, thanks to its size (13 l), is ideal for smaller students.

Would you like the whole set?

Both brands offer the option to color-match the bag with a pencil case. With Emipo, you can even match the rest of your school equipment with a gym bag.

As for color motifs, Emipo relies on proven classics. It offers its bags in pink variants for girls and blue for boys. However, this is not a handicap – from our experience, we know that many children are drawn to traditional patterns. The Herlitz brand has approached its collection of color motifs more broadly, so you can choose from more diverse pictures and shades.

Backpacks for everyone – from preschoolers to older students

When it comes to school backpacks, Emipo experiments a bit more. In addition to common types like Spirit Urban and Spirit Freedom, it also introduces unconventional 2-in-1 models. You can unzip the Explore Viki and Explore Daniel backpacks as needed and split them into two separate ones. Your child can decide for themselves when a smaller backpack is enough and on which day they need a larger one. Even after unzipping, both backpacks – smaller and larger – have padded backs, so nothing prevents full comfort when carrying. If you don't unzip the dividing zipper completely, the model serves as a full-fledged spacious backpack.

Herlitz focuses more on versatility, solid construction, and stability of backpacks for students. The sporty Bliss model or the spacious Be.bag Airgo Cube can be used by students throughout the day. For children who are just looking forward to the first grade, a lightweight Herlitz preschool backpack is suitable.

Whichever model you decide on, order it to one of our stores and come try it out. That is the only way to find out if the bag or backpack really fits your child and will reliably accompany them on their journey to education.
