Every step counts, so any reduction in single-use plastic bags is commendable. But which of the available alternatives is the most eco-friendly? It is no secret that plastics, led by plastic bags, are a threat to our planet that we have been turning a blind eye to for too long. Replacing single-use plastic bags with reusable ones is the right path that more and more conscious consumers are taking. But which shopping bag should you choose to minimize your environmental impact?
The most eco-friendly of eco-bags
To crack this nut, the Ministry of the Environment turned to the experts. A scientific study by the University of Chemistry and Technology is clear – the most suitable alternative to plastic bags are reusable textile bags made of polyester (PES/PET).
Among other candidates (lightweight plastic bags (HDPE), heavy-duty plastic bags (LDPE), paper bags with handles, and two types of textile bags – regular and organic cotton), the polyester one won, mainly due to its most favorable ratio of durability to environmental impact.
