Beautiful even with your head in the clouds – air travel doesn't have to cause you wrinkles

April 7, 2026 4 min read

Traveling and exploring the world is undoubtedly beautiful. However, these activities can temporarily take a toll on our appearance in a negative sense. That is why I will now advise you on how to at least minimize the unwelcome consequences of demanding travel from place to place.

The first part of the Beautiful on the Go miniseries was published some time ago. This time, however, we will focus on a different type of travel, for some less, for others more comfortable. As you might have guessed, we will be talking about flying.

Happiness (and beauty) favors the prepared

Happiness and beauty favors the prepared

The foundation of success is conscientious preparation. Before your flight, drink plenty of fluids (of course, I mean water – ideally still and mineral) and treat yourself to nutritious, but light and non-bloating food. If possible, also try to recharge your batteries with sufficient sleep.

Regarding your appearance, apply a nourishing moisturizing cream to your skin and choose a truly minimalist make-up – a proven non-irritating mascara, concealer or tinted cream, or perhaps a moisturizing lipstick will be more than enough. The air in an airplane is generally very dry, and you will inevitably be leaning and rubbing against things, often even dozing off, so layers of makeup would do more harm than good.

It is also better to avoid contact lenses, which would unnecessarily irritate your eyes.

We have successfully finished the preparation. But what should you take on board? As you surely know, only liquids of a certain volume (usually 100 ml) are allowed on the plane, so in the case of cosmetic products, bet on samples and travel sizes.

Do not forget to thoroughly hydrate your skin during the flight, especially if it lasts five hours or more. So pack a travel-sized face cream and your favorite lip balm. Eye drops with moisturizing effects can also come in handy. If you are afraid of unpleasant body odors, throw in a sample of perfume. However, keep in mind that this is an enclosed space without ventilation, so you need to be considerate of other passengers who might be bothered by a strong scent.

If you are spending the night on the plane, don't forget your toothbrush and a small tube of toothpaste. A compact comb and a hair tie can also be useful. Wet wipes or a small multifunctional and quick-drying towel are also universal helpers.

Store all this in a practical toiletry bag, which will ensure clarity and order for all your essentials. However, count on the fact that you will be asked to show its contents to the staff during security checks. The checks are quite thorough, so manicure scissors and other sharp objects definitely do not belong in your carry-on luggage!

You will support your outer beauty if you also feel content and comfortable on the inside. Above all, do not forget that your almost motionless limbs have a tendency to swell on a plane. It is not a pleasant feeling, but you can mitigate this phenomenon in two ways – drink plenty of fluids even during the flight (unfortunately, you have to buy water at a significant markup after security) and choose comfortable clothing and shoes that do not press or constrict anywhere. Also, avoid massive jewelry and generally anything that could hinder you or restrict the flow of lymph in your body.

Don't forget a blanket and perhaps even warm socks, as the air conditioning is treacherous. A practical pillow, eye mask, and earplugs will also make your travel more pleasant. Pass the time by listening to pleasant music or reading books. Alternatively, make a compromise and play an audiobook in your headphones.

Last but not least, a certain general overview and refinement are part of feeling good about yourself. So what is the final piece of advice? Remind yourself that you are not sitting in a theater auditorium, but on an airplane. According to the unwritten rules of "flight etiquette," you definitely do not clap after landing!

Once you are standing firmly on the ground again, especially if you suddenly find yourself in warmer climates, don't forget to apply sunscreen and put on sunglasses. Then you can set off on new adventures without any worries.
