Bagalio and the Red Panda: Our Friendship with Brno Zoo Continues!

January 16, 2026 3 min read

At Bagalio, we love adventure, nature, and all who inhabit it. But there are some relationships that are especially close to our hearts. One of them is our partnership with Zoo Brno. Now we have exciting news for you: we are officially renewing our sponsorship of the red panda!

A Shared Journey Since 2017

Our support for this rusty charmer didn't start yesterday. We first became proud sponsors back in 2017. Since then, we've watched the Brno breeding program grow, seen pandas lazily resting in branches, and brought joy to thousands of visitors. The decision to continue our support was completely natural for us.

Why the Red Panda?

Honestly? Just look at them. For us, they are probably one of the most beautiful and photogenic animals in the world. Their bushy tails, curious glances, and "bear-like" appearance captivate everyone. But it's not just about their looks. The red panda is a critically endangered species in the wild. Due to deforestation and habitat loss, their numbers in the Himalayas and southern China continue to decline. By supporting their breeding at Zoo Brno, we indirectly help maintain the gene pool of this fascinating creature.

Pandas in Brno: A Small Story with Big Successes

Brno Zoo has had long-term success with red pandas, even though breeding such rare and delicate animals is not always easy. Keepers dedicate all their care and love to them, but life sometimes brings moments that don't always end happily. The main protagonists currently are male Huan and female Oshin.

  • In 2020, their first Brno cub was born - a male named Siddhi, who now brings joy to visitors abroad.
  • In 2022, twins were born. While one of the cubs lost its fight for life shortly after birth, its sister Maya grew into a strong and healthy female.
  • She, too, has already ventured out into the world to start her own family.

It's great to know that thanks to our and your support, these pandas in Brno receive top-notch care and plenty of fresh bamboo, which makes up most of their diet.

Did You Know...? (A Few Facts About Pandas)

  • They are not bears: Although they are called pandas, they are more closely related to raccoons or weasels. They even have their own unique family.
  • Fire Fox: The Chinese name for the red panda translates to "fire fox" (hence the name of the well-known browser Firefox).
  • Sixth finger: They have a specially extended wrist bone that acts as a "thumb" to help them grip bamboo branches better.

We are very happy that as Bagalio, we can be a part of this story. Next time you head to Monk's Hill, stop by their enclosure (you'll find it in the upper part of the zoo near the exotic birds). You might only see them as a rusty ball high in the treetops, but trust us – it's worth it!

Thank you for helping nature with us.
