1. Hády Quarry and Lama Center: Jungle above the city
Distance from Brno city center: approx. 7 km
If you want to see Brno in the palm of your hand and feel like you are in another world, Hády Quarry is the clear choice. This location has undergone a major transformation in recent years and has become a refuge for rare species of plants and animals.
Start your trip in the Líšeň or Maloměřice district. The climb up will cost you a few drops of sweat, but the reward in the form of a panoramic view of Pálava (with good visibility) is worth it. The top of Hády is an ideal place for a sunset picnic. Don't forget to pack a blanket and a thermos with coffee in your backpack; the wind here can be treacherous even on warm days.
Tip: Just a short distance from the quarry is the Lama Center Hády. It is a small eco-farm in the former Džungle quarry where you can meet alpacas. It is usually open on weekends and is an absolute hit for families with children.
2. Mysticism of the Rosa Coeli Monastery in Dolní Kounice
Distance from Brno city center: approx. 25 km
Looking for a place with a unique atmosphere that will look great in your photos? The ruins of the Rosa Coeli (Heavenly Rose) monastery in Dolní Kounice is one of the most impressive places in Central Europe.
The roofless Gothic temple has a special energy. During the day, sunbeams fall here, and thanks to the missing roof, you have the sky right above you. If you are lucky enough to catch one of the evening cultural events or concerts, you will experience a unique atmosphere under the stars. It is an ideal destination for a romantic walk or for those who want to clear their thoughts in silence.
What not to miss in Dolní Kounice:
- The Rosa Coeli Monastery itself (check the opening hours).
- Jewish cemetery and synagogue.
- Local renowned Frankovka wine – Dolní Kounice is a wine paradise, so leave room in your backpack for one or two bottles.
3. Holedná Lookout Tower: Elegant landmark above Jundrov
Distance from Brno city center: approx. 8 km
Holedná Game Preserve in Jundrov is probably known to you thanks to the free-roaming fallow deer and wild boars. In recent years, a new landmark has grown here – the Holedná Lookout Tower. This 35-meter-high steel structure offers a circular view of Brno, the Brno Reservoir, and in good weather, the Drahanská Highlands. The path to the lookout tower is easy and manageable even with an all-terrain stroller or smaller children.
Why go here in 2026? The area around the lookout tower is now fully revitalized, and the trails are perfectly marked. It is a great escape into nature that won't take up your whole day – ideal for an afternoon after Sunday lunch. We recommend quality sturdy footwear, as forest paths can be muddy after rain.
Warning: If you are afraid of heights, stay down below. The Holedná Lookout Tower is really high and sways in stronger winds. Its steel structure also offers views through the stairs directly below you. Not for the faint of heart!
4. Through the Bobrava River Valley: An oasis of calm within reach of public transport
Distance from Brno city center: approx. 12 km
If you are looking for an escape into nature that is easily accessible by Brno public transport, Bobrava Nature Park is a safe bet. It stretches in the valley between Střelice and Želešice and offers a flat, easy route along the meandering river.
It is an ideal choice for a relaxing trip when you don't want to climb hills. In summer, the valley provides pleasant shade and coolness. The route is also very popular among cyclists, so be prepared for shared traffic on the trail.
Historical mills: The Bobrava valley is famous for its mills, which used the power of the river in the past. During your journey across the park, you will pass, for example, Radostický, Spálený or Anenský mill. Even though they no longer serve their original purpose, their buildings beautifully complete the romantic atmosphere of the landscape.
Fairytale trail: Near Želešice begins the Bobrstezka Educational Fairytale Trail, which is perfect for a family trip. Children can look forward to wooden statues, playful tasks, and interactive elements that will bring them closer to life in the forest. Although the name of the trail refers to the river and its famous inhabitant, the route itself is full of diverse fairytale creatures and animals that will make the walk more interesting for children.
Magical refreshment: A pleasant stop on the route is the Fairy Vrbička Spring. You will find a gazebo for rest and a picturesque setting that perfectly complements the fairytale atmosphere of the entire valley.
Terrain and length: The trail leads mostly along forest and field paths, which can be muddy after rain and overgrown with roots in places. We therefore recommend sturdy footwear so that you can enjoy the walk in comfort. The Bobrstezka trail itself is only about 1 km long, but you can extend the route through the valley as you wish, for example towards Střelice.
5. Akátová věž Lookout Tower near Židlochovice
Distance from Brno city center: approx. 20 km
Do you want to look south and enjoy the atmosphere of vineyards? Head to Židlochovice to the Výhon hill. There stands an elegant wooden Akátová věž, which offers one of the nicest circular views in the area – you will see Pálava, the White Carpathians, and with a bit of luck, the Alps.
The path up leads through terraced orchards and vineyards. It is an ideal place to "clear your head" and enjoy the sun that hits the southern slopes almost all day.
- Tip: Combine the trip with a visit to the castle park in Židlochovice, where you can meet free-roaming fallow deer.
- Just a short distance away, in neighboring Rajhrad, the monumental Benedictine Monastery with the Museum of Literature in Moravia is worth a visit. It is an ideal cultural end to the trip.
6. Peace Memorial: A touch of history on the Slavkov battlefield
Distance from Brno city center: approx. 20 km
For a change, we will head east of Brno, into the open landscape where the history of Europe was written. On the hill near the village of Prace stands the Art Nouveau monument Peace Memorial, commemorating the famous Battle of the Three Emperors at Slavkov.
It is not just about history. The place has a special genius loci and offers wonderful views of the wide surroundings. When the wind blows, it is an ideal place for flying kites. The complex also includes a modern multimedia exhibition that brings the battle closer in an unconventional and engaging way (it is fun even for older children).
- Tip: If you like architecture, stop on the way back in Slavkov u Brna and see the Baroque castle with its extensive park.
- Event: Every year at the beginning of December, reconstructions of the famous battle take place here, but the area is worth visiting in any season.
7. Babí lom Rock Ridge: An impressive rocky ridge trail
Distance from Brno city center: approx. 15 km
If you crave a bit of mountain atmosphere, you don't have to go all the way to the Jeseníky Mountains. Just a short distance above Lelekovice rises Babí lom, a narrow rocky ridge made of red conglomerate that offers one of the most beautiful views in the Brno area.
On the southern peak stands a freely accessible lookout tower, from which, in good weather, you can see as far as Praděd or into Austria. The path along the ridge is slightly more demanding (in places you will have to hold onto the rocks), but it is a perfect adventure for active tourists and older children who don't like walking on flat ground.
- Tip: The village of Lelekovice below the ridge is known for its precise maintenance and floral decorations. However, if you are looking for refreshments right in the forest, take a small detour to U Jelínka Forest Bistro (towards Vranov). It is a popular trip spot with a pleasant atmosphere where you can have draft lemonade or something good to eat.

Brno and its surroundings have a lot to offer in 2026. Whether you decide on a spiritual journey to Dolní Kounice or a sporting performance on the Babí lom ridge, don't forget the right preparation. Comfortable shoes are a must, but it is equally important to have a reliable backpack in which you can hide a snack, a bottle of water, and spare clothes.
